BHCC considers giving £14m Bailout the banks would not give to i360 developers Marks Barfield
1 May 2012…..There is no money to build desperately needed new schools. There is so little money that BHCC is shedding staff and office space. There is no money to properly maintain our roads and public spaces or to build new council housing to augment and/or replace aging stock…..but Brighton & Hove City Council is willing to consider BORROWING £14 million to hand over to Marks Barfield to make up their funding shortfall so they can erect a glorified lift on the seafront.
This pole is 4metres in diameter and a doughnut viewing pod would go up and down, up and down (a lift, no better) so they can view rooftops and the Downs. Whoopee.
The planning application was granted in 2007 and nobody has been willing to bankroll building it. Why does BHCC not read the fact that this is not a good investment? Decision on taking this consideration forward will be taken at Cabinet on 10th May.
