Gala Bingo Hall demolition site…there is now a start date!

2 October 2013…..The old Art Deco cinema – latterly a Gala bingo hall – was demolished and then just left with hoardings around the site.  People asked, wondered, puzzled….and there seemed no information about a start date for building.  Planning consents only last for 3 years and just in the nick of time to prevent losing theirs, the housing association has woken from its slumber.
Cllr Anne Pissaridou (Wish Ward) has made enquiries because of her wish to see some of the s106 money used for the childrens’ play area in Stoneham Park.  She confirms to saveHOVE that the s106 money was paid over and building will finally now start on 7th October.
To remind, a doctors super surgery is to occupy the entire ground floor and housing association flats are above it.  Interestingly, the GP surgery corner of Pembroke Crescent and Sackville Road has been thought to be committed both to moving to the redevelopment in Portland Road and also to the mysteriously not happening conversion of Holy Trinity Church in Blatchington Road to a GP surgery.
