Portzed! After a long period of dead silence after consent – comes a new application

19 December 2015…..Every Saturday morning, the planning applications registered in the previous week are published on the council website.  It is worth putting the planning register page into bookmarks for weekly checking.
Today, news comes that the developers for Portzed are seeking a range of changes to their Conditions of planning consent.  Conditions are always about unfinished business (left unfinished because, often, developers know what they want in those areas might get them a refusal if they put all their cards on the table!!!!).  Conditions are also areas of contention that take decision making out of the public arena and away from Planning Committee scrutiny where only the planning officers and applicants have any say.  This pertains until or unless those difficulties then result in a further planning application (or even several of them).
Here is the wording of the new Portzed application as cut and pasted from the register:

Application for variation of conditions of application BH2012/04044 (Demolition of business unit to east of Magnet showroom. Erection of new building ranging from 3no to 5no storeys at Kingsway Level and a further one and a half storeys of car parking beneath Kingsway ground floor accessed via Basin Road North. Development comprises mixed use commercial premises (A1, A3, B1, D1) with associated new access and 52 residential units in 6no blocks.
